Large scale graph-based SLAM using aerial images as prior information

چکیده
The problem of learning a map with a mobile robot has been intensively studied in the past and is usually referred to as the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) problem. However, most existing solutions to the SLAM problem learn the maps from scratch and have no means for incorporating prior information. In this paper, we present a novel SLAM approach that achieves global consistency by utilizing publicly accessible aerial photographs as prior information. It inserts correspondences found between stereo and three-dimensional range data and the aerial images as constraints into a graph-based formulation of the SLAM problem. We evaluate our algorithm based on large real-world datasets acquired even in mixed inand outdoor environments by comparing the global accuracy with stateof-the-art SLAM approaches and GPS. The experimental results demonstrate that the maps acquired with our method show increased global consistency.

LPKP: location-based probabilistic key pre-distribution scheme for large-scale wireless sensor networks using graph coloring
Communication security of wireless sensor networks is achieved using cryptographic keys assigned to the nodes. Due to resource constraints in such networks, random key pre-distribution schemes are of high interest. Although in most of these schemes no location information is considered, there are scenarios that location information can be obtained by nodes after their deployment. In this paper,...

By far, many stereo-matching techniques have been successfully proposed and applied in digital aerial photogrammetry. However, due to some problems such as large parallaxes, occlusions, geometric deformations, and repetitive patterns in convergent close range images, these methods may not be applicable to the same level of success as that of aerial imagery. In order to overcome these shortcomin...
متن کاملLarge Scale Monocular Vision-Only Mapping from a Fixed-Wing sUAS
This paper presents the application of a monocular visual SLAM on a fixed-wing small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) capable of simultaneous estimation of aircraft pose and scene structure. We demonstrate the robustness of unconstrained vision alone in producing reliable pose estimates of a sUAS, at altitude. It is ultimately capable of online state estimation feedback for aircraft control and ne...
متن کاملGlobal-Local Airborne Mapping (GLAM): Reconstructing a City from Aerial Videos
Monocular visual SLAM has become an attractive practical approach for robot localization and 3D environment mapping, since cameras are small, lightweight, inexpensive, and produce high-rate, high-resolution data streams. Although numerous robust tools have been developed, most existing systems are designed to operate in terrestrial environments and at relatively small scale (a few thousand fram...
متن کاملSegmentation Improvement of High Resolution Remote Sensing Images based on superpixels using Edge-based SLIC algorithm (E-SLIC)
The segmentation of high resolution remote sensing images is one of the most important analyses that play a significant role in the maximal and exact extraction of information. There are different types of segmentation methods among which using superpixels is one of the most important ones. Several methods have been proposed for extracting superpixels. Among the most successful ones, we can r...
